About Us

Embracing the urgency of our environmental challenges, Deriba Center for Environmental Studies (DCES) emerges as a beacon of scientific inquiry and innovation in the heart of Darfur, Sudan.

DCES is a youth-led, Sudanese, independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization that was founded in July 2018, in Zallingei Capital, Central Darfur State, Sudan, and expanded to have (6) more offices located in Khartoum capital of Sudan, Port Sudan, El-Genina Capital of Western Darfur State, Sennar State, Tawila of North Darfur State,  and Juldo Central of Jabel Marra, with an extended functioning in the (18) States of Sudan and at different levels: national, regional, and international/global. It was established in response to the critical need for more scientific research studies and developmental projects in the fields of environment and climate change, and as an advocacy tool for conserving the rich ecological system and a biodiverse environment in Sudan, with a particular focus on the vulnerable areas of Sudan.  Eventually, we evolved into one of the few centers conducting, Scientific Research, Implementing Development Projects, Humanitarian intervention and advocating for more action against it at the local community level.

Advancing Climate Progress in Sudan

Although Sudan’s role in combating climate change is minimal, the country stands as one of the susceptible regions to its effects regionally. This reality affects vulnerable communities throughout Sudan, jeopardizing food security, risking livelihoods, and forcing the displacement of communities. Addressing climate change in the region necessitates a response tailored to the country’s distinct challenges and strengths.

DCES commitment and dedication to climate change research and advocacy as one of many environmental matters is playing a crucial role in several ways:
