Emergency Cholera Response through WASH Interventions Project

📍 Tawila Locality – North Darfur
📆 November 2025

The Deriba Center for Environmental Studies (DCES) continues its commitment to improving community health, marking Day Three of the capacity-building workshop for volunteer groups from Tawila Al-Omda and Dabanaira camps.
This vital training enhances community skills in latrine hygiene, safe sanitation, and cholera prevention, ensuring that families are empowered with the knowledge to protect themselves and their communities.

Before the start of the workshop sessions, DCES held an introductory meeting with volunteer representatives from Tawila Al-Omda and Dabanaira camps. The session highlighted the objectives of the Emergency Cholera Response initiative, the role of community volunteers, and the importance of WASH practices in protecting families from cholera outbreaks. This meeting laid the foundation for active participation and community ownership throughout the training.

Emergency Cholera Response through WASH Interventions Project

  • Understanding contamination risks and preventing diseases
  • Volunteers discussed real-life WASH challenges faced in camps and practical ways to reduce cholera transmission.

Working Together for a Healthier Community

This life-saving initiative is implemented through a partnership between DCES and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with support from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). Together, we aim to strengthen WASH services and improve public health conditions in crisis-affected communities across North Darfur.
